ANALYZING
THE X-FILE
Here are the results (shown as a chart) of a computer
program I wrote some time ago. The program simply chose one X-File
randomly and then tried to quess (randomly) the correct X-File using
the rules determined by the characteristics sheet. The program
calculated each attempt. I ran 500000 X-Files and (about) 5 million
X-Files characteristics question were made by the program. Results
clearly indicate that some X-Files cards can be more easily
determined than others.
Each X-File has a number after the
card name: this number is the average attempts to quess the correct
X-File (including the final, identifying question). There are 41
X-Files card and it seems that Mrs.Paddock is the "middle" card. It
takes roughly 10 questions on average to determine Mrs.Paddock if
questions are randomly chosen. The difference between "The
Poltergeist" and "Leonard..." is 2.226 questions which really makes
a difference in a "real" game!
